By Way Of, consists of photography, sculpture and moving image. Her process is one in which she draws from her own observational photographs, inspired by architecture, evolving the meanings through multiple mediums. Interested in the interpretation of such elements as arches, cornices and windows, she questions; is there more to be revealed which contains historical, spiritual and political intentions, than just the basic shapes?

In contrast to the man made sculptural forms, Land introduces elements of a lush nature with overarching green leaves resting on a building, the shadowed slow movement of a questionably natural palm and a series of stills of hand cut copper leaves. This duality speaks to the traditional role of nature being viewed as female where materials and structures are most always assumed male.

She Seemed To Have Overlooked Something, which is the entry point to the show, allows the viewer to look through the glass-less mahogany window to reveal a world in which sharp copper metals are shaped to create feminine like leaves blowing in the wind. In the photograph She Is At This Moment All the More Perilous As She Is More Silent, More Secret, the overarching green leaves rest on the deep red of the building, leading one to question which is dependent on the other. Man made materials are sculpted in such a way to create a perfectly smooth yet topographic circle, exposing the plywood’s internal rings and the softness of valchromat in More Than Her Art, The Guests Admired Her Duality. The dangling of the circle and then the title suggests Her role in the moment, one of disregard and yet expected performance.

The titles borrowed from authors André Breton, Paulo Coelhlo, Gabriel García Márquez and Milan Kundera, provide a narrative to her visual observations. Specifically through these male descriptions of female characters, she begins to build her own environment. Investigating the role of female through a male voice, Land uses various materials and mediums to interpret and communicate the sensuality, starkness, weaknesses and strengths of public expectations and private internalizations.
